Family Weekend FAQs

Family Weekend is Oct. 21–22, and we hope you and your families — grandparents and siblings, too — can join us for an inside look at life at SPS and what your child has been up to. Below are answers to some of the questions we have been hearing.

List of 15 frequently asked questions.

  • What time should I arrive?

There is no specific time that you must arrive. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. on Friday and a variety of events will be offered through Saturday afternoon. Review the Family Weekend Schedule to see what is available to you over the weekend.
  • Do I need to register for the weekend?

Yes, we ask that all families register to let us know if you will attend. Please register all guests in your party.
  • Do I need to be vaccinated to attend Family Weekend?

SPS asks guests, including our students’ families, alumni, and others, to follow the Visitor Policy to ensure the health and well-being of our entire community.
  • Where do I check in?

Check in at the Athletic & Fitness Center from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday and in the Schoolhouse Reading Room from 7:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday.
  • Where do I park?

Parking is available in our campus lots, marked by A through G on the Campus Map.
  • How do I schedule a meeting with my child's adviser?

Please connect with your child’s adviser before Family Weekend to schedule a meeting time. Suggested meeting times are Friday, Oct. 21, between 2 and 4 p.m. or Saturday, Oct. 22, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
  • Do I get to attend classes with my child?

You will have the opportunity to attend Mini School on Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. and will receive your child’s class schedule at registration. These classroom visits are planned for parents and guardians only; because space is limited, students and siblings do not attend.
  • When will I get to see my child?

You may meet your child whenever you arrive on the grounds as your schedule — and their's — allows. Most families meet for lunch on Friday, share dinner, and attend the Performing Arts Showcase on Friday night. On Saturday, you are free to depart following your child's last commitment.
  • Can my child leave campus with me?

Yes, though students cannot not miss commitments and must use the REACH system, as they normally do, when leaving the grounds. All students in every form will be required to be in their dorm no later than 9:45 p.m. on Friday evening.
  • What time can I take my child off grounds for the long weekend?

Students are free to leave after their last commitment on Saturday. Departing students must complete a REACH request by 10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, and sign out before their departure on Saturday. Learn more about the REACH system.
  • Will there be student bus transportation provided for Family Weekend?

SPS will offer RETURN transportation only, on Tuesday, Oct. 25. All buses will depart their respective locations according to the schedule. For more details and to sign up, please click here.
  • Can my child stay on campus for the long weekend?

Yes, your child is welcome to stay on campus throughout the weekend. The Dean of Students office will host activities throughout the weekend for students who are remaining on the grounds.
  • Will there be an opportunity to learn more about volunteering?

Yes. Parents@SPS will host a Kick-Off gathering Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Friedman Community Center to provide information about parent volunteer and engagement opportunities.
  • Are there local accommodations?

There is a variety of lodging options in Concord and the surrounding area. See the Visitors webpage for more information.
  • I have a few more questions. Who can I contact?

Please contact Jennifer Fithian at jfithian@sps.edu with questions regarding Family Weekend activities or registration. For answers to all other questions, please contact your child's adviser.
