The SPS theater program is committed to staging important modern plays, and reclaiming classic plays. With opportunities to act, direct and write, or to be part of our student tech crew, responsible for set construction, stage management, lighting and sound, the SPS Theater Company is an inclusive community that, for many, becomes their home at SPS.

Areas of study include: Acting; Directing; Playwriting; Filmmaking; Screenwriting; Shakespeare & Verse; Documentary & Political Theater; Philosophy & Ethics in Theater.

Jonathan Rand, playwright and author of the Theater Program’s 2019-20 winter play Murder in the Knife Room, visited with the cast to answer questions and provide insight that only he could. “It’s rare that you get to meet the playwright of the play you are working on. It makes it real.”

Kurt Crowley ’02, musical director for the hit show Hamilton, visited with students as part of the Conroy Distinguished Visitors program. “It was inspiring seeing and hearing the in-depth explanation of how he got there and the hurdles that he went through.”
