Rector Kathy Giles has appointed Scott Bohan ’94 to the role of chief advancement officer and Derek Johnson, associate dean of admission and director of multicultural recruitment, to interim dean of admission for the next academic year
Rector Kathy Giles has appointed Scott Bohan ’94 to the role of chief advancement officer, effective August 1. Bohan, who has spent the last 10 years as the School’s dean of admission, had previously served the School as associate director of The SPS Fund and as a capital gifts officer.
A New Hampshire native, Bohan earned his bachelor’s degree at Colgate University and his master’s degree at Dartmouth College. After two years as associate director of admissions at Cushing Academy, he came to St. Paul’s School in 2000. He devoted 16 of the last 21 years to admission work at his alma mater, serving as associate director of admission, senior associate director of admission, and dean of admission. Bohan coaches boys varsity lacrosse; previously, he served as head of house and coached football and girls varsity hockey.
“Scott worked very successfully in Advancement at SPS and at this point in his career, he brings outstanding experience and skills to this leadership position,” says Rector Kathy Giles. “Scott has been focused on student experience, but he is also well connected throughout our alumni and parent bodies. He’s a terrific coach and adviser, and he understands and is fully engaged in school life. Our Advancement team has done amazing work over these past months, and it is a great time for Scott to bring his talents to lead our next steps in Advancement.”
Bohan succeeds Bruce Smith, who served as CAO for two years after 20 years of advancement leadership at Dartmouth College.
Derek Johnson, associate dean of admission and director of multicultural recruitment, has accepted the position of interim dean of admission for the next academic year. Johnson, originally from London, England, is a graduate of the University of Maine at Machias. He joined St. Paul’s School in 2011 after a decade in admission work at the University of New Hampshire’s Manchester campus.
“Derek is a terrific school person who excels at all aspects of his professional life at SPS,” Giles says. “He is a talented, experienced admissions professional, as well as a fine coach, head of house in Drury, and adviser.”
A former professional athlete in Europe, Johnson brings his athletic expertise to the SPS girls soccer team as head coach.
This fall, the School will conduct a search leading to the appointment of the next dean of admission.
