Ben MacBride joined the faculty of St. Paul’s School in the fall of 2013 as a mathematics and science teacher. He grew up in Stratham, N.H., a three-sport athlete who competed in soccer, hockey, and baseball.
As an undergraduate at the University of New Hampshire, he found an outstanding adviser who immersed him in a NASA project that resulted in the publication of several articles in peer–reviewed journals of astrophysics. Mr. MacBride also had the opportunity to present his research at international space physics conferences. He graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from UNH with a B.S. in physics and a minor in applied mathematics. He went on to the University of California at Berkeley, where he conducted research on solar cells while earning a master’s in physics.
After graduating from Berkeley, Mr. MacBride spent two years teaching middle school and community college mathematics at Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. He and his wifer eturned to Boston, where they worked in a lab, conducting research on the improvement of solar cells. He soon discovered that he missed teaching and working with young people. He returned to the classroom as a physics teacher at Winnisquam Regional High School (N.H.), where he also coached soccer. He also served as an adjunct professor of physics at the University of New Hampshire.
Mr. MacBride lives on campus with his family. He enjoys hiking and trail running with his wife and the family dogs.
