Derek Johnson joined St. Paul’s School in the fall of 2011 as Associate Dean of Admission/Director of Multicultural Admission and head coach of the girls’ soccer team.
Previously, Johnson spent ten years as Assistant Director of Admission at the Manchester campus of the University of New Hampshire. Johnson also coached the New Hampshire Technical Institute men’s soccer team to three Yankee Small College Conference titles in four years and a place in the USCAA National Championship Game.
After receiving a B.S. in Business Administration from The University of Maine at Machias, where he played Basketball and Soccer. Johnson began a professional basketball career in Europe, winning the British Basketball League Championship in 1994 with the Worthing Bears, followed by the National Basketball League Championship in 1995 for the Croydon Swifts. Johnson returned to Coach his alma mater’s Women’s Basketball team in 1996. In 2000 Johnson Coached the University of Maine at Fort Kent Men’s Basketball team to a Top 25 NAIA National Ranking. In 2015 Johnson was inducted into the UMM’s Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1991 team that won the NAIA District 5 Championships and played in the National Championships at Kemper Arena in Kansas City.
