Big Red tie it late against Exeter

On Saturday night, the “Big Red” hosted the other “Big Red” from the southern end of the “Granite
State,” Exeter Academy. In another game of huge momentum swings—a current trend for this year’s
edition of St. Paul’s School boys hockey—both teams skated off of the ice after fifty-nine minutes of play
(fifty-four minutes of regulation and five minutes of overtime) to a 3 - 3 draw. The St. Paul’s School
skaters jumped on the board quickly, scoring two goals in the first period of play. Eight minutes into the
start of the game, defenseman, Brady Hall ̕26 (Newport, RI) scored on a shot taken from the above the
right face off circle assisted by Tommy Humphrey ̕25 (Simsbury, CT). Three minutes later, Matt Vohra ̕25
(Valley, NS) scored the second St. Paul’s School goal of the game. Harry Dermody ̕26 (Bedford, NH)
picked off an errant Exeter pass and found Vohra all alone in front of the Exeter net, where he easily
deposited the puck behind the goalie. At that point in the contest, it looked like the Millville “Icemen” had
a wonderful opportunity to skate away with a victory, but Exeter would not go away easily. The visitors
responded in the middle period by scoring three goals to take a one goal lead into the last period of play.
During the last eighteen minutes of play, the “Pelicans” played better team hockey and tied the game up at
three goals a piece. Gavin Code ̕26 (Littleton, CO) was the “hero” for the night, setting the home crowd of
“Paulies” into a frenzy when he fired a shot past the Exeter goaltender to tie the game with 10 seconds
remaining. Code’s goal was set up Anderson Kilbourne ̕26 (Duxbury, MA) and Harry Dermody ̕26
(Bedford, NH). The five minute overtime was exciting as both teams had a few opportunities to score, but
no one could seem to find the back of the net.
The St. Paul’s School boys hockey team will head on the road Wednesday afternoon to take on the third
ranked team in New England, the Holderness School “Bulls” at 2:30pm—we hope to see you there!
