Big Red get opening win of 2024 vs. Huskies of Kents Hill

On day two of the Joshua Weeks “New Year’s” Tournament the “Big Red” squared off against the Kents Hill “Huskies” in the 9:00 am game. Both teams arrived at the Travis Roy rink, on the Tabor Academy campus, hungry to travel home with a win. Harry Dermody ̕26 (Bedford, New Hampshire) opened the scoring when he converted on a shorthanded break-away opportunity to give St. Paul’s a one goal lead. Kents Hill responded, scoring goals in the closing minutes of the first half and the opening minutes of second half to take a 2 - 1 lead. The “Pelicans” showed better resilience and determination, though, proving they never doubted their ability to recapture the lead. Christian Yi ̕24 (Lake Forest, CA) scored a rebound goal on the power-play off of a Matt Vohra ̕25 (Valley, NS) shot from the left side of the high slot. Tommy Humphreys ̕25 (Simsbury, CT) then scored off a beautiful feed to the front of the net from the right corner of the offensive zone by Fin Kilbourne ̕27 (Duxbury, MA) to give the “Big Red” the lead
for good. Lino Viau ̕24 (Los Angeles, CA) sealed the victory in the waning moments of the game when he fired a rink length shot into the Kents Hill empty net. Goalies Blake Truchon and Treva Murphy split the game, each player played one half, and each only allowed one goal apiece.
The “Pelicans” will resume action Saturday night when the play Exeter at home at 6:00pm in the Hockey Center—we hope to see you there!
