Big Red go close against the Hornets

In game two of the Joshua Weeks “New Year’s” Tournament the “Big Red” played Proctor Academy, who lost to St. George’s in their 9:00 am game at Gallo Arena in Bourne, Massachusetts. The “Pelicans” and “Hornets” have a familiarity with one another; they are both in the Lakes Region hockey conference, and when they play one another there are typically significant swings in momentum. This game was no different. The “Big Red” jumped out to a two goal lead when Anderson Kilbourne ̕25 (Duxbury, MA)
and Pat Cooley ̕25 (Rutland, VT) scored goals in the first eight minutes of play. Then with six minutes to play in the first half, the tide of energy changed and Proctor Academy scored a power play goal from a left point shot. Twenty seconds later, the “Hornets” scored on a nice play in transition to tie the game at two goals a piece. Midway through the second half, Harry Dermody ̕26 (Bedford, New Hampshire) would put the “Big Red” up 3 - 2, when a Matt Vorha ̕25 (Valley, NS) shot deflected off his foot and into the Proctor net. The St. Paul’s School skaters surrendered their lead in the closing four minutes of the play, when Proctor converted on a rebound attempt. In the closing two minutes of play, the referee whistled for a “Hornet” penalty shot, which the Proctor skater converted, giving the “Hornets” a 4-3 win. Treva Murphy ̕25 (Manchester, NH) stood tall for the “Big Red” stopping 38 of 41 Proctor Academy shots.
