Big Red down Bobcats in opening match up

In the opening game of the 2023 - 2024 hockey season, the St. Paul’s School boys varsity hockey
team fell behind a good Brewster “Bobcat” team in the first few minutes of play at the Pop Whalen
Ice Arena in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. After five minutes of play and limited damage while
shaking off the early season jitters, Fin Kilbourne ̕27 (Duxbury, MA) banged home a rebound shot
to tie the game at one. Brewster, excited for their first home game of the year, kept the pressure on
the “Pelicans” and responded with a goal of their own to take a two to one lead after the first
eighteen minutes of play. During the first period of play, Treva Murphy ̕25 (Manchester, NH) came
up with some key stops to keep the Brewster lead to only one as the “Big Red” killed off almost a
full two minute Brewster five versus three power play advantage.

In the second period, the Millville skaters played with more composure and team structure. They
scored two goals, one by Tommy Humphreys ̕25 (West Simsbury, CT) and one by AJ True ̕24
(Manchester, NH), to take a three to two lead after thirty-six minutes of play. Humphrey’s goal came
off a redirect of Christian Yi ̕24 (Lake Forest, CA) point shot, and True’s goal was a great individual
effort in front of the “Bobcat” net.

For the last 18 minutes of play, the two teams raced up and down the ice. Brewster skated furiously
to tie the game at three goals a piece, and the St. Paul’s School players looked to find the “magical”
fourth goal. When it was all said and done, in the closing minutes of play, Lino Viau ̕24 (Los
Angeles, CA) fired home a snap-shot from above the left face-off circle to beat the Brewster
goaltender to secure a two goal lead with only two minutes to play in regulation.

The St. Paul’s School boys varsity hockey team will return to action tomorrow afternoon at Tilton
School for a 4:30 puck drop—we hope to see you there!
