Big Red win last game of season.

The Big Red played their final game of the 2023 campaign on a picture-perfect fall Saturday afternoon versus the Bobcats of Brewster.  In a positive fashion, the squad said goodbye and thank you to their five sixth formers; Tri-captain center back Declan Schweizer, tri-captain midfielder Brandon Chu, midfielder Cotler Sienkiewicz, forward Leon Peng and striker Tom Wang.  What a day it was for the seniors.  Leon Peng opened the scoring with fourteen minutes to play in the first half.  A loose ball from a corner kick became free at the top of the box where Leon hit a beautifully clean half volley that blew past the outstretched hands of the Bobcat keeper.  This was Leon’s first goal of his SPS Varsity career and it was a big one.   Brewster was able to even the game in the final moments of the half, but the second half would be all Big Red.

Less than two minutes into the half, Will Iller ’26 slotted a nice ball through to a streaking Pat Cooley ‘25 at the eighteen. Pat coolly finished into the side netting.  Sixth former and tri-captain Brandon Cho would give the Big Red a two goal lead twenty minutes later when he finished a rebound of a Ryan Ham ‘ 25 shot off of the post.  In the final five minutes of the game, Tom Wang would score the last goal of the season.  It was another Iller through ball, this one to send Cho in on the keeper, in classy and heads up play, Cho slid ball across the goal mouth for Wang to finish.  It was a very well-played second half by the Big Red and a good one to end on.  Congratulations to the entire squad for their growth and development as players and as a team this fall.

Congratulations as well to Coach Toulson for finishing his first season with the Big Red.  Coach T. has begun to establish a team culture of support and smart play that his team bought into as the season went along and bodes well for the future.

See you ten and a half months.  Keep working hard.

Go Big Red!
