SPS Falls to Wildcats

The Big Red played host to the undefeated Wildcats of Vermont Academy on a brisk fall afternoon.  The VA side is a skillful group that moved the ball well.  As SPS played positionally sound they limited quality chances by Vermont.  However, when the Big Red made a mistake VA took advantage.  Fifteen minutes in, a set piece gave them their moment and quickly it was a 1 – 0 game.  The remainder of the half saw both teams possess the ball at times.  Ryan Ham ‘25 used his speed to earn several corner kicks for the Big Red.  VA pushed hard in the final minutes of the half, but Kristof Lovegren ‘25 made several super saves, and the backline was fearless in the blocking of shots for SPS.

In the second half, the Big Red was not able make the comeback they had hoped for.  VA increased their lead, but SPS did not back off.  With under four minutes to play, Randy Fu ’25 slid a nifty through ball to Brandon Cho ’24 who finished cleanly in the side netting.  A positive step for the entire Big Red side as the continue to work hard for each other.

The Big Red play their final game of the 2023 campaign on Saturday versus the Bobcats of Brewster.  The team will be saying goodbye and thank you to their five sixth formers; Declan Schweizer, Brandon Chu, Cotler Sienkiewicz, Leon Peng and Tom Wang.  Hope you can join us.
