Big Red Happy to Return to Hunt Field

SPS returned from their mid fall long weekend to host the Bulls of Holderness on Hunt field.  It was a slow start for the Big Red as they struggled early to find their rhythm and play clean balls to their teammates.  The first big chance of the game came on a misplayed ball by the Big Red and fortunately Kristoff Lovegren ’25 came up with a big save to keep the game even.  As the SPS began to get the ball side to side spaces began to open up.  With 10 minutes to play in the half, Lucas Miller ’25 pushed a nice ball wide to Will Iller ’26 on the flank.  Will’s first touch had him behind the Holderness defense and his second touch put the ball in the back of the net.
The Big Red took the 1 – 0 lead into halftime and knew they would need to find another level of play to close this one out.

As the second half began, the Big Red did play with more energy.  At the 20-minute mark, SPS was able to double their lead.  Pat Cooley ’25 served a beautiful corner kick to the head of Thomas Wang ’24 and the players on the field and bench erupted.  As is often typical with a two goal lead, the team in the lead relaxes and the team down a few, presses hard.  The Bulls pressed.   It would be Lovegren again who came up with a huge breakaway save with 10 minutes to play and keep the breathing room for the Big Red to close this one out.  A solid team effort that should help the team gear up for the second half of the season.

The squad travels to Cushing Academy, home of the Penguins, for a Saturday night game under the lights at 5:00 PM.  Hope you can join the team.

Go Big Red!
