Varsity and JV Boys Cross Country Each Third at NMH Invitational

In the six-team varsity race, competitors were closely packed through the course’s opening 1K of rolling grass, with teams budgeting their efforts well and watching their footing after overnight rain created slick conditions. Andrew Carroll ‘25 ran aggressively up front with lead runners from other teams, and Linus Krenkel ‘27 was not far behind the lead pack. Chappy Carroll ‘27, Ian Chang ‘25, and Cam Perry ‘24 worked together a few seconds back; Sam Du ‘25 and Harry Moyer ‘27 similarly worked together amidst the next group. The middle mile saw a few key placement changes up front as low sticks fought for points over the segmented climb of “Jacob’s Ladder” and the following section of short and steep climbs. Evincing a close field, most runners hit the last kilometer of the race still in contact with several other competitors and leaving finishes to be decided. Carroll and Krenkel each finished in the top 10. Team scoring put SPS in a tie with host school NMH for third, and sixth-runner Du’s placement over the NMH sixth-runner gave SPS the win in the tiebreaker. Varsity results: Deerfield 43, Loomis Chaffee 51, SPS 80*, NMH 80, Keene 102, Concord Academy 151.
