Big Red travels to Albany for NXT LVL Tournament

St. Paul’s made the trek to Afrim Park in Albany, NY to take on the Arrows of the St. Sebastian’s School.  The NXTLVL event saw close to 30 NEPSAC teams take part over three days with plenty of college coaches present to catch the many talented players on the pitch.  St. Sebs was the first team to get on the board as they did a nice job putting dangerous balls into the box.  A missed clearance opportunity by the Big Red and they found themselves down a goal.  Keeper Kristof Lovegren ’25 made brilliant breakaway save moments later to keep the game tight.  Unfortunately, the possession-oriented Arrows were able to score three more before the half ended.

The second half saw the Big Red play more consistently.  The stingy back four of Declan Schweizer ’24, Carter Corbett ’25, Blake Truchon ’26 and AJ Zoltowski ’27 played aggressive defense and allowed few chances on net.  Hunter Morton ’26 was vocal in the SPS net.  William Iller ’26 had a great chance off a corner.  Tom Wang ‘ 24 continued to pressure the ball smartly and Randy Fu ’25 showed his technical skill and tactical awareness well in the midfield.  It was great to see everyone have a chance to contribute to today’s effort and the squad looks forward to more challenges ahead.

The SPS soccer program (the Varsity and JV teams) head to Worcester Academy on Wednesday to take on perennially strong Worcester Academy.

Go Big Red!
