Xin Yi Chan (or Dr. Chan) teaches biology and molecular biology. She originally came from Penang, Malaysia, and spent 10 years in Rochester, New York, where she obtained her B.S. in molecular genetics and Ph.D. in biology from the University of Rochester.

Prior to coming to St Paul’s School, she conducted research in the field of vascular engineering at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, she taught Cell Biology for Engineers, Cell and Molecular Biology lab, and Genetics lab at the college level, and was also actively involved in high school and middle school science outreach programs. It is through these teaching experiences she realized that her true passion lies in education.

Dr. Chan loves working with students and instilling a sense of curiosity about Biology, both inside and outside of the classroom. She lives with her wife, and their sweet lab mix, Mochi, in Nash House.
